San Giljan Giuseppe’s 12
Sirens Ritter Sports 11
(1-3)(4-4)(4-3)(3-1)
San Giljan spent most of the match chasing their rivals, but they had the last laugh, with a winner, seconds from time, to pay back for their elimination from the K.O., by the same Sirens.
The St Pauls Bay side had a bright opening, to take a double lead, and then they controlled their opponents in the second periof, sharing eight goals, and also missing a penalty throw.
Sirens, who enjoyed a four goal advantage, but saw the Saints creeping up again, had Clint Mercieca sent off, with substitution, late in the session. At the interval Sirens were 7-5 in the lead.
Sirens opened up their advantage once more, after the break, but San Giljan replied with a four goal run, as Sirens lost one of their foreigners, Csaba Kiss, on fouls.
Sirens held a slight 10-9 lead, going into the last session. The Saints drew level, only to see Sirens forging ahead again. San Giljan’s efforts were rewarded, when they obtained an equaliser, and then dealt the mortal blow, in the last , seconds of play, to take all three points, and leave Sirens with their sole bonus point, whilst they went up to five.
San Giljan converted four of their man ups, but Sirens were more wasteful, netting four goals from a total of ten favourable expulsions. Two saints’ players scored hat tricks, Karl Galea and Filip Trajkovic, although the latter also missed a penalty in the third period. Csaba Kiss scored three goals, before being fouled out,
