San Giljan Giuseppe’s have just returned from an intensive five day pre-season training camp held at the Cittadella dello Sport inSyracuse,Sicilyin preparation for the upcoming summer league. During this training camp, San Giljan participated in the Gianluca Veneziano Memorial which also saw the participation of host Club Circolo Canottieri Ortigia, Acicastello and Muri Antichi Catania.
The Maltese Club managed to obtain a prestigious second place after a 10 – 10 draw against Muri Antichi Catania, a victory against Acicastello (14 -13) and a minimal defeat in the final against hosts Ortigia with the final score of 10 -11. Captain Paul Fava was presented with the runner-up trophy (see photo attached) at the end of the tournament. The tournament received prominent cover in the Sicilian media as well as in the much acclaimed website www.waterpolodevelopmentworld.com.
The San Giljan squad continued to train intensively with hosts Ortigia for the remaining days. The squad was led by Head Coach Karl Izzo and accompanied by the Club President Dr Daniel Aquilina and newly appointed Secretary Anthony Attard.
