San Giljan beat Sliema

Yesterday evening San Giljan beat Sliema 8-7 at the end of a thrilling match. San Giljan started off very well to gain a solid advantage over their opponents which even stretched to a five goal advantage. However, the Karl Izzo boys had to fight off the Sliema come back as Sliema reduced the disadvantage to only one goal  with thirty eight seconds to go.

It was a fine display by the whole San Giljan squad. Both foreigners, Sutic and Letica had a very good game while the rest of the squad played at its best to make up for the absence of captain Paul Fava. It is worth noting that this was the last match in which San Giljan were playing without Matthew Zammit who will be making his much awaited comeback in this Friday’s preliminary round play-off against Sirens as yesterday’s win gave San Giljan the second place in the preliminary round group.

Yesterday, it was also announced that the knock out draws will be drawn this Saturday evening.

Match details and extracts from today’s papers will be uploaded later.
