San Giljan TUM Invest 10 Sliema Frank Salt 8 (4-2), (2-1), (3-2), (1-3) The first edition of the Enemed Trophy went to San Giljan today, as the saints overcame Sliema and notched their 33rd win in as many matches, a record in the local waterpolo sphere.San Giljan won all 25 games in a super 2017 which had them win all competitions. They added another eight games in this new competition to reach 33 wins in a row. The previous 32-match unbeaten stretch record also belonged to San Giljan, a record they had reached in the 1994-95 season. That time, however, the record was made up of 29 wins and three draws. The Malta national waterpolo team will be taking part in the LEN Europa Cup which will take place in Split, Croatia between Wednesday 14th and Sunday 18th February. During this tournament the Maltese will be meeting the big guns of European waterpolo ahead of a qualifying round for the European championships against Belarus. The five San Giljan ASC players are goaler Jake Tanti and players Darren Zammit, Dino Zammit, Ben Plumpton and Andreas Galea.

San Giljan TUM-Invest are delighted to announce the signiture of Croatian player Paulo Obradovic as our foreigner for the upcoming season. Obradovic currently plays for Olympiacos in Greece and has won many medals in his carrier including a Gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012. He has a very powerful right hand shot and is a great leader in the pitch, also he can play in various positions and will surely be very important for the team. It was a perfect season for San Giljan Tum Invest. They won all four waterpolo competitions, starting off with the winter league, going on to take home the President’s Cup and then completing a memorable season by winning the summer league and the knock-out. It is the second time in waterpolo history that a club won all four titles available in this sport. Sliema had made it in 1998. But there’s a difference. San Giljan won all four competitions without a defeat and without even conceding a draw. It was 25 wins from 25 games for the club, a feat that was never achieved before and which cannot be beaten. It was a resounding win for the champions who finished the season by winning all their 25 games, winning all competitions, and cementing their place as one of the best ever teams. Sliema were only in the game during the first period as they took the lead from Jerome Gabarretta, and after Aleksandar Ivovic put San Ġiljan in front with two well-taken goals, Guillermo Molina equalised from penalty.
